Why You Should Have a Regular Exercise Routine

Exercise is good for us. We know that. Research, experts and evidence tells us that. However, it’s important that you make exercise part of a lifelong love of movement and commit to a regular exercise routine. Here are 11 reasons why.

1. Exercise helps with concentration

When you exercise you are feeding more oxygen and energy to your brain and studies show that this can boost your memory and it helps you learn and take in more information.

2. Exercise boosts self confidence

Regular exercise and enjoying a healthy diet can improve your appearance and body shape but it also boosts your self-confidence too. Regular exercise can offer you a sense of accomplishment and gives you a sense of purpose. Even if the results don’t happen immediately your wellbeing will be given a good boost and the effort of exercising regularly will have a big impact on your self-esteem.

3. It makes stress a thing of the past

Apparently, we are more stressed than ever before and whether it’s one tough day or a series of tough days and events, stress can have a negative impact on our mind, health and wellbeing. However, a regular exercise routine is shown to be a great way to combat stress. The natural highs that come in the shape of endorphins are a great to keep stress emotions at bay.

4. Get a better night’s sleep

With more distractions than ever before it’s no wonder more of us are finding it hard to drift off to sleep naturally when our heads hit the pillows. A regular exercise routine is a great way to boost and aid a restful and peaceful night’s sleep and help you to achieve your recommended 7-9 hours of sleep each night.

5. Give you energy levels a boost

Did you know that exercising regularly can boost your energy levels?! It might seem a little counter-intuitive as after all, exercise and physical activity by its very nature is draining. But a regular exercise routine can make us feel more positive, more energised and ultimately happier! Studies have found that if you exercise in the middle of the day you’ll feel more creative and productive for the rest of the day!

6. Exercise boosts immunity

Whether it’s a cough, cold or full-blown flu, no one likes being poorly or sick. Studies show that people who follow a regular exercise routine and keep fit and active are less likely to suffer from a cold as their immunity is given an added boost.

7. It can help life expectancy

Regular exercise and physical activity will help you to live longer. Exercising regularly can add anywhere from one to four years to your life and one study even found that following a regular exercise routine improves life expectancy as much as quitting smoking!

8. A happier you!

If you just want to feel better in yourself then exercise is the perfect potion for you!! Regular exercise produces more endorphins, which are also know as feel good hormones so you’ll be on cloud nine each and every time you work out!

9. Skin health improves

Do you ever notice that your skin can look a little ‘tired’ especially if you’re tired, run down and stressed? Your skin can be affected by the negative emotions you feel. A great way to combat this is through regular and moderate exercise. In the same way exercise stimulates blood flow it can help delay the appearance of skin aging!

10. Bone health can improve

Regular exercise plays an important role in building and maintaining good bone health and if it’s done regularly, especially when you’re younger it can build bone density, which helps prevents osteoporosis in later life. Classes such as Les Mill BodyPump are believed to improve bone density when done regularly.

11. A natural pain reliever

Several studies have shown that a regular exercise routine can help reduce chronic pain and improve the quality of life of those suffering from these chronic conditions. Conditions such as low back pain, chronic soft tissue disorder and fibromyalgia are just a few conditions exercise is believed to help.

The evidence looks pretty compelling! Exercise and a regular exercise routine can benefit, help and support all areas of your body – from your head to your toes.
