Forming good habits when young can be the key to maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle later in life. Given the chance, most young children enjoy being active but even by the time they reach school age, some children’s lifestyles are becoming increasingly sedentary due to increasingly busy family lives, the lure of screen time and other non-active commitments.

One of the best motivators for children to continue their love of exercise and remain active is positive role models and allowing time to enjoy the sports and classes which are of particular interest to them.  Making exercise a priority and allowing plenty of opportunity to get active ensures it doesn’t get overlooked and becomes a necessary part of our day-to-day lives.

With summer on its way, there has never been a better time to reignite your child’s enjoyment for exercise and 1Life is here to help.  At 1Life we pride ourselves on offering a supportive environment for all the family to get active. Here we’ve listed a few classes and activities that are on offer at 1Life to suit all ages and for your child to try their hand at.

Born to Move™

This is an innovative class developed by global fitness experts, Les Mills.  The 45 minute class can be tailored to all ages from toddlers to teens and the focus is on fun rather than exercise, so the children soon forget they are exercising at all! Based on a series of scientifically proven, age-appropriate moves set to music, the class incorporates a virtual screen but is led by a specially trained Born to Move ™ activator and is already proving to be very popular.

Classes provide an excellent opportunity for kids to make friends and gain a sense of belonging which can be a great motivator and add to the positive experience of exercising.

Born to Move™ is only available at certain locations .

Swim school

1Life centres offer excellent swimming facilities and deliver the nationally recognised Swim England Learn to Swim Programme through its popular swim school.  This particular programme is the leading national teaching syllabus for delivering safe, inclusive and effective swimming lessons.

The 1Life swim schools cater for all ages and swimming abilities, from absolute beginners through to gaining their enhanced aquatic skills.  The structured lessons are based on games to ensure children are learning and gaining confidence in the water through having fun. The children’s achievements are then recognised through badges and certificates which acts as a great motivator.

Gymnastics

Many of our 1Life centres offer gymnastics classes for beginners with fully trained coaches, which are aimed at all age ranges.  The varied and structured classes are delivered in-line with the highly-regarded British Gymnastic award scheme. The class includes assessments to monitor and reward your child’s progress along the way.

Assessments and recognition in the form of badges and certificates are an excellent way to build confidence while acting as an effective motivator to maintain interest.

Football

If your child is a budding footballer, why not hone those skills at 1Life.  Some of our centres offer astro-turf pitches as well as grass pitches with football skills classes on offer.  Being part of a team can give kids a real sense of belonging and they’ll have lot of fun along the way. School age children are able to understand the basic rules of games and football is a great place to start.

Tennis/Badminton

If Wimbledon has inspired your child to give tennis a go then contact your local 1Life centre.  This sport is an excellent way of combining cardo and co-ordination and is fun for all ages. Our tennis and badminton courts are well kept and tuition is available to perfect your skills.  Lessons are based around playing games, having fun and drills.

Trampolining

Bounce your way to health with 1Life’s popular trampolining sessions, fun for all the family! The hour long classes are aimed at 3 year olds through to adults and focus on learning the basic moves such as a seat drop through to a more challenging somersault, all under the guidance of one of our qualified coaches.

Activity camps

If you are looking for ways to get the kids active during the school holidays then look no further than our Activity Camps. Children between the age of 5 and 12 can get involved in a range of sports and activities in a friendly and encouraging environment.  Our activity camps have recently teamed up with the GB Olympian Association so children can expect competitions and prizes, all in the true Olympic spirit.

Soft play

Not forgetting the little ones, our soft-play sessions for 1 to 4 year olds are always a hit.  These 1 hour sessions allow children to explore the soft play shapes, have fun in the ball pit and get adventurous in the bouncy castle.  Expect lots of smiles and tired tots by the end of the session.

If the variety of sports and classes on offer have inspired you and your family to get active then contact your local 1Life centre for further information here.
