Each class is structured with a warm-up, a balanced workout and a cool-down. So if we’ve convinced you that group fitness could be worth a try here are our top classes for you to try….
Les Mills classes
Les Mills is a global powerhouse when it comes to group exercise and training and 1Life centres offers most Les Mills programmes. It has more than 20 different programmes tailored for people of all ages and all abilities. There are always lower intensity options for beginners and even a ‘smart start’ introduction to people brand new to exercise which encourages you to build up slowly to avoid burnout.
For disco divas you can try Les Mils Sh’Bam or BodyJam and if cardio is more your thing then you might like BodyAttack or BodyCombat. If you want to use weights to get lean and build bone density, then give BodyPump a try. If you’re happier on a bike, then Les Mills also has RPM and SPRINT as a HIIT option. And if you’re a lover of HIIT then you can enjoy Les Mills GRIT series too. Les Mills really does have something for everyone. For more information about the Les Mills classes you can visit: www.lesmills.com
If you prefer the pool then we have a great range of Aqua classes which are generally aerobic based (these may be known as Aqua, Aquafit, Aqua Aerobics or similar at your local centre). These classes are perfect for any age or ability (including in most cases non-swimmers - check with your local centre first). Our instructors will take you through a fun, high energy session using a series of aerobic movements. Give your fitness a boost and have great fun in the process.
Keep calm and get flexible
More and more people are recognising the benefits of mind and body workouts and incorporating flexibility workouts into their fitness programmes. 1Life centres do offer a great variety of these programmes.
Originating from India, Yoga combines spiritual, mental, and physical activity in a range of stretches and different positions. Yoga classes enhance your physical and mental state bringing your body and mind together. Yoga is a safe holistic experience that increases physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance. Programmes are designed to improve posture and enhance your breathing technique. Regular yoga can be beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains, depression and stress.
Using a series of low repetition, low impact stretching and conditioning exercises, Pilates will improve your posture and build your core strength (back, abdominal and pelvic muscles). Pilates is great for anybody who is looking to sleep better and learn to relax and beat stress. Also suitable if you are looking to improve balance, co-ordination and strength (without adding bulk!). Starting with a gentle stretching warm up, you will move on to mat exercises. These may look difficult but each move is precision based, concentrating on controlled breathing and movement flow.
Zumba mixes low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Combining Latin and World rhythms the music will take over your body and many people call Zumba® Fitness classes - exercise in disguise. It will deliver a total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.
XT Cross Training
If you need something more challenging XT Cross training could be for you. Cross training combines popular cardio fitness, with dynamic strength, balance & flexibility exercises. Variety is the key, as it provides fun and unlimited ways to workout all in one session.
By alternating your workout, cross training increases your performance and overall fitness without stressing your body to the max. When in a XT Cross Training class you will typically be using:
- Watt bikes
- Customised training rig
- 10m sprint track
- Prowler track
- TRX suspension trainers
- Concept 2 rowers
- Dynamax Medicine Balls
Virtual and immersive classes
Les Mills Virtual workouts offer its fitness programs on a virtual screen and is perfect for people who can’t make the class time or might want to check out a class before attending a live, instructor led class.
